With 37 APA member, the Northwest Texas Section constitutes 3% of the total Texas Chapter APA membership. 32% of the Northwest Texas Section members are also members of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

Location

The Northwest Texas Section is the largest section geographically covering 88 counties. The urban areas within the section include: Abilene, Amarillo, Big Spring, Borger, Levelland, Midland, Odessa, Pampa, Plainview, and San Angelo.

Meetings

Meetings are held quarterly and a quarterly newsletter is published.

Special Projects

The Northwest Texas Chapter of the APA participates in the Small Cities Assistance Team (SCAT) program. Although there are mid-sized urban areas within this section, there are many small cities and towns that do not have professional planners on staff. Members of NWTXAPA, who are planners in the larger urban areas, volunteer their time and experience to periodically present mini-workshops on planning related matters. The tem trains planning and zoning commissions, city officials and staff members of small cities in the Northwest Section on items such as goal-setting; comprehensive planning; zoning and subdivision regulations; role of the Planning and Zoning Commissioner; ethics/conflicts of interest issues, among other topics.
