City Planners Association of Texas

Purpose Statement

The City Planners Association of Texas (CPAT), an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League and a department of the Texas Chapter-American Planning Association, has the unique responsibility to represent the concerns of planners and planning agencies serving the cities of Texas. It shall be the purpose of CPAT to advance sound planning for cities through legislative action. Toward this purpose, the Association promotes planning education and provides membership services.

1998 GOALS

  1. Actively participate in the legislative process to promote good planning for all Texas cities.
  2. (A) Monitor legislative activity and communicate issues to members (see No. 2).
    (B) Involve planners in the legislative process.
    (C) Provide support for TML lobbying efforts
    (D) Prepare legislative issue papers.

  3. Build and reinforce partnerships with the Texas Municipal League and the Texas Chapter-American Planning Association.
  4. (A) Conduct legislative panels at Texas APA conference and section meetings.
    (B) Provide educational opportunities for city officials through TML.
    (C) Increase CPAT participation and visibility at TML meetings.

  5. Increase contact with members on legislative and other planning matters by developing one or more timely and reliable communication methods.

  6. Sponsor research projects which will benefit city planning efforts.
