The Planning Department of the City of Fort Worth, Texas is recruiting for THREE (3) Planner positions to be filled in early 1999. Applications are due January 8th as noted below and interviews will be in February.

POSTION # 1
Planner/Urban Design (Neighborhood Planning Division)
Salary: Starting ange $30,108 to $37,080 DOQ

Responsibilities: Position provides urban design and neighborhood planning skills for a variety of projects including corridor studies, neighborhood design and commercial revitalization. Planner provides creative and practical design solutions for challenging, inner-city improvement projects. Planner reviews and recommends site and streetscape designs, prepares design guidelines.

Qualifications: Minimum is Masters degree in Urban/Regional Planning or related field. A bachelor’s degree in above field plus 2 years experience in professional urban planning and/or urban design may be substituted. Knowledge required includes site planning, urban design and graphic skills. Must have good verbal and written communication skills, computer literacy, and ability to work effectively with neighborhood residents, civic groups, and other professionals. Must be able to work well in a team setting and handle multiple projects. GIS and computer graphic skills are highly desirable. AICP preferred.

POSITION # 2
Planner (Comprehensive Planning)
Salary: Starting range  $30,108 to $37,080 DOQ

Responsibilities: Position plays a major role in update of the City’s Comprehensive Plan, which was last updated 15 years ago. Duties include research, analysis, computer mapping, illustrations, facilitating citizen participation, developing policies and means of implementation, and drafting and editing text. The Plan is to be completed summer 1999 and updated annually. Looking for experienced individual with strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications: Minimum is Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field, OR Bachelors degree in above fields PLUS 2 years of above experience OR other combination of training and experience. AICP and experience and training in land use, transportation and GIS preferred.

POSITIONS # 3
Planner/Economic Development (Neighborhood Planning Division)
Salary: Starting range $30,108 to $37,080 DOQ

Responsibilities: Position prepares neighborhood economic development studies and plans, recommending creative and workable economic development solutions for challenging inner city revitalization projects and corridor studies.

Qualifications: Minimum is a Masters degree in Urban/Regional Planning or related field. A Bachelors degree in above field plus 2 years economic development planning experience may be substituted. AICP preferred. Required knowledge in economic development planning and tools. This includes knowledge in fiscal impact study, cost benefit analysis, incentive programs (such as tax credits, tax abatement, increment financing, historic tax exemptions, empowerment zone, enterprise zone, and use of federal block grants to leverage business loans and financing), as well as other innovative and diverse economic development tools.

City Planner
Town of South Padre Island, Texas

The Town of South Padre Island is seeking a qualified applicant to serve as the City Planner. The position is primarily responsible for development regulation and related special projects.

Responsibilities: This is a professional position reporting to the Director of Public Works. Responsibilities include providing information and assistance to the public regarding zoning and development requirements, reviewing development requirements for compliance with town rules and regulations, preparing planning reports and recommendations, drafting zoning and development related ordinances and policies, making presentations to boards, committees and the general public, oversight of the Town trolley system and carrying out special projects.

Planner/Landscape Architect
PGAL, Dallas, Texas

Senior Planner - Neighborhood Planning
City of College Station, Texas

The City of College Station, TX. (population 64,000) is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a Senior Planner position, who under the direction of the City Planner, will develop a neighborhood or "small area" planning program for the City. Over the past several years neighborhood associations in College Station have grown and become more active. There are a variety of land use and other issues facing the city’s many neighborhoods which range in age from the 1940’s when College Station incorporated to the present. The City recently adopted a new Comprehensive Plan and would like to begin working more directly with citizen groups to help them develop their own neighborhood plans addressing their individual needs.

Responsibilities: The Senior Planner will be responsible for developing and implementing a neighborhood planning program, working with community organizations and citizen groups and taking the lead on special project assignments. This person will work in the Development Services Department that houses, building inspections, development engineering, development planning and comprehensive planning.

Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Urban Planning (AICP preferred) Applicants should have 3-4 years increasingly responsible experience in municipal planning with 2 years supervisory experience. Transportation Planning Coordinator (MPO)
